Builders are required to follow all safety procedures when working near ENMAX Power infrastructure on construction sites.
Destructive excavating practices including road grading, surface construction (including driveway apron excavation and compaction), landscaping and building construction activities have resulted in significant potential safety risks for individuals and quality risks for ENMAX’s infrastructure.
“ENMAX Power has identified an increasing trend of construction sites failing to follow the ENMAX Ground Disturbance Guidelines,” said Jesse Retzlaff, manager with joint use and telecom service. “In order to prevent injuries and keep everyone safe, builders must practice continuous awareness around electrical equipment.”
We ask that developers, all contractors and their sub-contractors adhere to Alberta Occupational Health & Safety Code Part 32 and obtain locates from Utility Safety Partners. In addition, ground disturbers in Calgary must also obtain a Conditional Permission Letter from
hotdigs@enmax.com before any excavation within two metres of any above grade ENMAX facility and within one metre of any underground electrical cable. Excavators must adhere to all applicable legislation including
ENMAX Power’s Ground Disturbance Guidelines and all conditions set out in the ENMAX Permission Letter.
Failure to follow these Alberta OH&S Codes and ENMAX Ground Disturbance Guidelines will result in an immediate shut down of the site – safety is our top priority at ENMAX Power.
ENMAX Power also offers a free safety tutorial for companies with employees or equipment working near electrical infrastructure in Calgary. The
Hazardous Electrical Awareness Tutorial (H.E.A.T.) provides your workers with the basic awareness required to work safely around electrical equipment to prevent lifelong injuries or death.
