ENMAX Power ends Transformer Allocation Strategy in mid-November

In September 2022, ENMAX Power informed the development community of a global transformer supply chain challenge facing the entirety of the electricity industry.

Following several shipment delays and partial deliveries from our suppliers, ENMAX Power took several actions to respond to the challenge.

“We increased our suppliers and orders, introduced the Transformer Allocation Strategy and consistently communicated with the development community regarding the challenge and status,” said Joe Beetge, manager, project management.

“We are very pleased that our Transformer Allocation Strategy proved successful in avoiding a complete stock-out situation and we’re now moving in a more positive direction.”

ENMAX Power anticipated transformer supply challenges to resolve by the end of 2023. With the supply chain stabilizing and October shipments received, ENMAX Power ended the Transformer Allocation Strategy on November 13, 2023.

With the end of the Transformer Allocation Strategy, ENMAX Power will no longer be deferring transformers on jobs currently in progress and any new developments entering construction. With the high volume of lots to be completed in Q4 2023, the current priority is to focus on timely energization for each in progress site.

“We want to thank the development community for working together with us to accomplish our collective goal of minimizing impact during this global challenge facing our industry,” said Beetge.

ENMAX Power will continue with the current practice of requiring a developer to place a request for any required deferred transformer for the remainder of the year.

Developments will continue to receive transformers based on the demand requirements for each site. ENMAX Power will begin to install the outstanding transformers in a systematic manner starting in early 2024, with the goal to have the balance installed by the end of the first quarter.
