Meter installation and energization process

Getting a Site Identification number (Site ID) is a common first step to setting up a new electrical connection or upgrading an existing service. Learn the steps involved to get a new or temporary electrical service in your home or business.

Step 1: Plan your work or project

Do you have an electrician?
Has your electrician or your ENMAX point of contact confirmed that ENMAX can provide the power you require?

Step 2: Obtain a Permit

Your electrician can help you obtain the right electrical permits. Permit requirements may vary depending on your site location
For more information on the City of Calgary permitting process, search ‘electrical permit’ on www.calgary.ca or contact your electrician for assistance

Step 3: Get a Site ID

You and your electrician require the following information to submit the Site ID request:

> Contact Information

> Address

> Service Type (Building or Usage Type)

> Electrical Characteristics (voltage, amperage, phases, and wire count)

> Permit number (requirements may vary, contact your declared authority person, electrician or electrical inspector)

Your City of Calgary electrical inspector or Declared Authority Person (DAP) will declare to ENMAX Power that the site is safe and ready to energize. If you use a DAP, identify the name/party in the ‘comments’ and ‘permit number’ sections when completing your Site ID request below.

Step 4: Choose your Retailer

Customers are free to purchase natural gas services or electricity services from a retailer of their choice. For a list of retailers, visit UCA Helps
Contact your retailer of choice to enroll your new Site ID
Did you know it takes up to 48 hours for your new Site ID to be available to all retailers?

Step 5: Is your site ready for energization?

Ensure your site is safe and ready to energize as per your Electrical Inspection Authority and ENMAX standards.

Step 6: Request Site Energization

Ensure your site is ready for power before requesting a meter installation and energization. You must complete Step 5 before requesting site energization.
Contact your electrical retailer to request a meter installation and energization
Your electrical retailer will submit a request for ENMAX Power to install a meter and energize your site.

Step 7: We're on our way

ENMAX Power will receive your request from your retailer.
If your site meets all the requirements and is safe and ready to energize, an ENMAX Power crew will complete your request.

This checklist must be completed before a site visit will be made to complete your CT metered service. This checklist applies to sites that contain a metered service amperage exceeding 200 amps.

Installation will be scheduled during regular working hours (M-F; 8AM - 4 PM) unless otherwise requested. After-hours work can be requested and is subject to availability. Please note, an additional after-hours fee will apply. Request here.
