NEW! Rate of Last Resort will be 12.06¢ per kWh

The Government of Alberta is changing the RRO rate on December 31, 2024 to the Rate of Last Resort. Customers in Alberta are able to select a retail plan with a retailer of their choice. Those who do not or cannot will be automatically transitioned to the newly formed Rate of Last Resort on January 1, 2025. The government has stated that the name change to Rate of Last Resort better reflects the nature of the rate and is part of ongoing consumer awareness initiatives.

About the Calgary RRO rate

About the Calgary RRO rate

The RRO rate fluctuates each month based on market prices for electricity in Alberta, which depends on the forecast supply and demand across the province. This means the RRO rate can rise or fall depending on market conditions and therefore, RRO bills can vary even when consumption remains similar. Each month the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) reviews and acknowledges the rates charged for RRO service in Calgary which have been determined in accordance with ENMAX Energy’s approved energy price setting plan.
